Your safety is our priority. Follow these guidelines to report issues while protecting yourself from digital and physical risks.

CivicWatch is for reporting systemic issues and civil rights violations. It is NOT monitored 24/7 for emergency response.

Digital Safety

  • Use Incognito/Private mode in your browser when reporting.
  • Do not use your work or official email to contact us if you need anonymity.
  • Clear your browser history after visiting CivicWatch if using a public computer.

On-the-Ground Safety

  • Avoid taking photos in a way that attracts unwanted attention from hostile parties.
  • Ensure your phone is locked with a strong PIN or biometric before heading into risky areas.
  • Tell a trusted friend where you are going if you are investigating a sensitive issue.

Safe Reporting Checklist

1. Remove Identifiers

Ensure photos don't show your face, reflection in windows, or unique tattoos/clothing.

2. Metadata Protection

CivicWatch strips GPS data automatically, but be aware of background landmarks.

3. Facts Only

Write objectively. Avoid emotional language that might identify your personal stake.

4. Secure Connection

Always use HTTPS (look for the padlock). Avoid public unencrypted Wi-Fi hotspots.
